UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy Meets PM Modi, Strengthens Bilateral Ties

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy called on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, with both leaders reviewing the progress in bilateral relations and welcoming the conclusion of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement and the Double Taxation Avoidance Convention.

Prime Minister Modi expressed satisfaction over the successful negotiations and appreciated the constructive engagement by both sides. He noted the deepening of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and welcomed continued cooperation under the Technology Security Initiative to foster secure and trusted innovation ecosystems.

Lammy reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening ties across key sectors, including trade, investment, defence, security, clean energy, technology, and innovation. He expressed confidence that the Free Trade Agreement would open new avenues for economic growth in both nations.

The leaders also discussed regional and global issues of mutual concern. Lammy strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam and reiterated the UK’s support for India in the fight against cross-border terrorism. PM Modi called for united global action against terrorism and its sponsors.

Prime Minister Modi conveyed warm greetings to UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and reiterated an invitation for him to visit India at the earliest mutual convenience, underlining the importance of high-level engagement in the growing partnership.
