Indian athletes kicked off the Taiwan Open 2025 with a stellar performance, bagging six gold medals on the opening day. Pooja led the charge, winning the women’s 1500m in 4:11.65, securing India’s first gold with an impressive finish.
Abdulla Aboobacker followed up by capturing gold in the men’s triple jump with a 16.21-meter leap on his third attempt. Jyoti Yarraji sprinted to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles, clocking a swift 12.99 seconds to add another gold to India’s haul.
Tejas Shirse powered through the men’s 110m hurdles, winning gold with a season-best 13.52 seconds. The women’s 4x100m relay team of Sudheeksha V, Abhinaya Rajarajan, Sneha SS, and Nithya Gandhe set a championship record, finishing in 44.07 seconds ahead of Vietnam.
The men’s 4x100m relay team – Gurindervir Singh, Animeesh Kujur, Manikanta Hoblidhar, and Amlan Borgohain – also secured gold, clocking 38.75 seconds, their second-best timing this year, confirming India’s strong presence.
The two-day Taiwan Open is underway at Taipei Municipal Stadium, featuring around 40 events across men’s, women’s, and mixed categories. A 34-member Indian contingent has made a promising start as the competition intensifies.
With a spectacular opening day, Indian athletes have set a high bar, aiming to continue their medal-winning spree in the remaining events on June 8.
