With a bid to strengthen its position in the mid range segment, realme has launched the realme 16 5G in India with a focus on photography, design and battery performance.

The device features a dual 50MP camera setup including a 50MP front camera and a Sony IMX852 50MP rear sensor, designed to deliver improved portrait photography with AI based imaging support across lighting conditions, along with a rear selfie mirror that allows users to frame shots using the main camera, supported by an Aura Ring Flash, gesture controls and voice countdown for more intuitive capture.

The camera system is powered by the LumaColor image engine, aimed at delivering natural skin tones and balanced colours, while Vibe Master Mode introduces multiple tone presets for portrait photography and AI Edit Genie offers tools such as AI Inspiration, AI StyleMe and AI LightMe, with AI Instant Clip enabling automatic creation of short video clips from photos and videos.

On the design front, the realme 16 5G adopts what the company calls an Air Design, combining a slim profile with a lightweight build despite housing a large battery, along with a 6.57 inch display, a narrow bezel and a horizontal camera layout aimed at improving balance and grip during everyday use, while the back panel features a gradient finish with a textured surface and anti fingerprint coating.

The smartphone is powered by a 7000mAh battery supported by a long life algorithm designed to maintain battery health over extended charge cycles, with 60W fast charging support that reaches 50 percent in around 30 minutes, along with bypass charging for thermal management and reverse charging support for added utility.

Commenting on the launch, Francis Wong, Chief Marketing Officer at realme India, said “The smartphone industry is undergoing a clear price reset, with the users expecting far greater value at every price band. With the launch of the realme 16 5G we are responding to this shift by bringing meaningful innovations like an industry-first selfie mirror, a massive 7000mAh battery and a slim, everyday design. This is about delivering not just innovation, but a reliable, long-term experience that truly aligns with how India buys and uses smartphones today.”

The device also includes IP69, IP68 and IP66 certifications for water and dust resistance, covering protection against splashes, high pressure water and varied outdoor conditions, and runs on realme UI 7.0 with the Flux Engine aimed at delivering smoother performance and long term system stability.

Further speaking during the launch, Kailash Lakhyani, Founder Chairman of AIMRA India, said “realme has consistently maintained a strong, collaborative relationship with AIMRA (All India Mobile Retailers Association)—which represents 1.50 lakh retailers in India and our nationwide retail community. realme continues to bring products that align well with the expectations of the mainline market.
