Following a meeting with Elon Musk and senior cabinet members, U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday that the federal government’s workforce is “out of control” and pledged significant cuts to reduce inefficiency and wasteful spending.
Addressing reporters in the Oval Office, President Trump said, “We have many people who don’t work, and we have people who are still getting checks, probably even people who aren’t alive. It’s outrageous, and we’re going to fix it.”
The president also highlighted the findings of an ongoing review of federal spending, which he claimed had already uncovered billions of dollars in waste.
“Many contracts have expired, but we’re still paying for things that don’t make sense. We are cutting out that fat,” He added.
While calling for job cuts, He stressed, “I want the cabinet members to keep the good people. Those who aren’t performing, who aren’t showing up to work, they can go.”
Trump further praised Elon Musk for helping identify inefficient government contracts, accusing some of being bloated and “wasted” with “billions thrown out the window.”
