Originally announced in 2017 and later delayed by lengthy European regulatory inquiry, Apple finally has completed its acquisition of Shazam, the music identification app. Shazam has been downloaded over a billion times since its release and with the acquisition, the app will go completely add free, Apple sources promulgated.
The long delay stemmed out a genuine concern of using Shazam’s user data in shifting customers from rival music streaming services. However, after thorough investigation, the European authority has approved the deal adducing that it wouldn’t harm competition.
“Apple and Shazam have a long history together,” says Apple Music VP Oliver Schusser. “Shazam was one of the first apps available when we launched the App Store and has become a favorite app for music fans everywhere … we are thrilled to bring our teams together to provide users with even more great ways to discover, experience and enjoy music.”
