Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami were held to a goalless draw by Egypt’s Al Ahly in their opening match of the Club World Cup, which kicked off smoothly in Florida.
The highly anticipated clash ended 0–0, but not without drama. Messi nearly secured a stoppage-time winner for Miami, only to see his curling 20-yard shot spectacularly tipped onto the crossbar by Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.
Al Ahly, meanwhile, missed a golden opportunity to take the lead in the first half. Egyptian international Trezeguet’s penalty was saved by Argentine keeper Oscar Ustari, keeping the match finely poised.
Both teams now turn their focus to the next round. Inter Miami will face FC Porto on Thursday in Atlanta, while Al Ahly take on Palmeiras in New York.
