Argentina reports the first case of Brazilian variants of COVID-19

The Government of Argentina has reported the first case of two Brazilian variants of Coronavirus in travelers from the neighboring nation.

Argentina Health Minister, Ginés González García on Twitter said, “The Amazonas P.1 variant was recently detected in two samples, and the Rio de Janeiro P.2 variants in two other travelers all from Brazil.”

“These findings highlight the importance of the implementation of active genomic epidemiological surveillance to monitor the introduction of these variants in our country,” he added.

“For this purpose, the team was acquired with the most advanced technology for complete genomic sequencing in the region and the world. In this way, Argentina ranks among the countries with the highest genomic monitoring of SARS- CoV 2,” it added.
