Avis Hospital, India based specialty centre dedicated to the treatment of varicose veins, has raised $2.5 million in a strategic growth capital round from NABVENTURES, the venture capital arm of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

The investment was strategically facilitated by Equity 360, a boutique private market investment banking firm led by Sumeet Seraf.

The capital raised will enable Avis Hospital to expand its footprint to more than 15 Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, strengthening its capacity to provide specialised care to underserved communities.

The hospital also plans to invest in technology-driven diagnostics and set up mobile screening camps to identify and treat patients in remote rural areas. These initiatives reflect Avis Hospital’s long-term vision of building a nationwide network for vein health, grounded in a rural-first healthcare delivery model that prioritises access, affordability, and awareness.

Founded by Dr. Rajah V. Koppala, a U.S. trained Vascular and Interventional Radiologist, Avis Hospital was established to address a silent but widespread health crisis in India, chronic venous insufficiency, commonly known as varicose veins. This condition severely impacts millions, especially in rural regions where daily-wage workers and farmers often suffer in silence due to limited access to specialised care.

“Having treated thousands of patients in the U.S., I realised the greatest need was back home in India,” said Dr. Rajah V. Koppala, Founder of Avis Hospital. “Every time I saw a farmer limping to his field or a mother struggling to walk her child to school, I knew we had to build something different. This fundraise marks a major milestone in our mission to restore mobility and dignity.”

Speaking on the impact of this condition, Sumeet Seraf, Founder of Equity 360, said, “In rural India, varicose veins are more than a medical issue, they’re a livelihood crisis. Farmers and workers often suffer silently, unable to stand or walk without pain. In villages, it’s often referred to as ‘haathi ki tang’ (elephant legs). This partnership is about restoring dignity, mobility, and income in rural communities. Avis isn’t just treating veins – it’s rebuilding lives. We are proud to back Dr. Rajah’s mission and bring capital to where it’s most meaningful.”

Further speaking about the investment, Ashish Choudhury, Chief Investment Officer at NABVENTURES, said, “Avis Hospital embodies the intersection of clinical excellence and rural relevance. We’re excited to support a model that is deeply specialised, operationally efficient, and scalable to underserved geographies. This is a bold step toward bridging India’s rural-urban healthcare divide.”
