Japan: New COVID-19 virus strains detects in travellers from Brazil

The Japanese health ministry on Sunday said, “A new strains of COVID-19 have found in four travellers who arrived in Japan from Brazil.”

Briefing the press on the Coronavirus situation in the country, the Health Ministry said, “The mutation was detected in four travellers who arrived at Tokyo’s Haneda airport after traveling from Brazil’s Amazonas state.”

“The new strain appears to be different from the strains found in the U.K and South Africa,” the Ministry said.

Adding to the statement, Takaji Wakita, Head of the National Institute of Infectious Disease (NIID) said, “There is no evidence at the present that the new variant was highly infectious but studies are already underway into the efficiency of vaccines against the new strains.”
