The International Atomic Energy Agency’s Director General Rafael Grossi has confirmed the destruction of the above-ground pilot enrichment plant at Iran’s Natanz nuclear site.
Grossi added that the site’s electricity infrastructure was also damaged, and the loss of power to a key cascade hall may have harmed centrifuges used for uranium enrichment.
However, he reassured that levels of radioactivity outside the Natanz facility remain unchanged and within normal limits. Any radiological contamination is considered manageable with proper safety measures.
Meanwhile, Iran continues to enrich uranium at the Natanz pilot plant to a purity level of 60 percent — nearing weapons-grade uranium, which is about 90 percent purity.
Another site, Fordow, which is located deep inside a mountain, produces more enriched material. Military experts note that this underground facility would be much harder for Israel to target effectively through bombardment.
