Following the tragic plane crash of Air India Flight 171 near Ahmedabad, Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg issued a heartfelt statement expressing his condolences to the families and loved ones of the passengers and crew who lost their lives.
Ortberg confirmed that he personally spoke with Air India Chairman N. Chandrasekaran and assured him of Boeing’s complete support in the aftermath of the tragedy. He reiterated the company’s commitment to aiding recovery operations and the ongoing investigation.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of life in this tragic event. Our thoughts are with all those affected. We stand in solidarity with Air India and the people of India during this difficult time,” Ortberg said in the statement.
He also announced that a specialized Boeing technical team is on standby and ready to support the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which is leading the official inquiry. The team will assist with technical assessments and data analysis in accordance with international aviation protocols.
The crash, which occurred on Thursday just minutes after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killed 241 of the 242 people onboard. The incident is being investigated by AAIB, with the support of national and international aviation safety experts.
