Speaking with TechGraph, Archisman Misra, CEO and Founder of Studiobackdrops, discussed how India’s fast-growing creator economy is driving demand for professional-grade production tools, and how the company is expanding access to affordable backdrops, lighting, and audio gear that enable emerging creators to produce high-quality content without the cost barriers of imported equipment.

Mishra also spoke about how Studiobackdrops is helping bridge infrastructure gaps for regional creators by delivering professional equipment across more than 19,000 pin codes, while strengthening its focus on sustainability through recyclable Indus paper backdrops and durable in-house brands such as Backdrops4ever and Baroque Studio, ensuring creators can grow responsibly and affordably in a rapidly evolving content ecosystem.

Read the full interview in detail:

TechGraph: The creator economy in India is expanding at a remarkable pace, yet professional-grade equipment remains out of reach for many emerging creators. How do you see affordability and accessibility influencing the next phase of growth for Studiobackdrops?

Archisman Misra: Professional equipment such as lights, microphones, or backdrops is often imported, and due to shipping and customs, it is 50-70% more expensive.

In the fast-moving creator economy, new creators often find it difficult to access quality, reliable, and professional equipment at affordable prices. This is where StudioBackdrops has made a move. StudioBackdrops offers one of the largest collections of backdrops, including textured, seamless paper, hand-painted, muslin, and vinyl backdrops, at affordable prices.

With the backdrops, Studiobackdrops also provides affordable photography and videography tools like studio lights, LED kits, RGB lights, Microphones, and camera accessories, everything in one place. Creators today focus on professional equipment for quality content. We have entry-level backdrops and lighting kits on Studiobackdrops that are designed for Photographers, Videographers, and Content creators who want to set up their studio with affordable equipment.

TechGraph: As global e-commerce majors and established camera brands expand aggressively into India, competition is intensifying. How then does Studiobackdrops position itself to stand out and build long-term trust in a market driven heavily by price comparisons?

Archisman Misra: Studiobackdrops distinguishes itself by focusing on quality and reliability rather than scale. In a generic marketplace, it has created a niche industry. The curated backdrops, studio lights, and audio gear stand out in the whole marketplace. The professional-grade equipment is designed to suit Indian creators with reliable quality and affordable price.

With its products, Studiobackdrops focuses on creators and their challenges. This commitment creates trust between the audience, positing Studiobackdrops as an alternative to the marketplace.

TechGraph: Audience preferences today are shaped by short-form video and live-streaming formats, which often demand different equipment choices. Given this, how are you recalibrating your product strategy to stay ahead of fast-changing creator workflows?

Archisman Misra: With the evolving content industry, audience preferences are also shifting towards short-form and live-streaming content. Instead of focusing on traditional photography gear, Studiobackdrops focuses on creator-specific equipment. Equipment that supports creators working on reels, vlogs, and live-streaming.

For fast-evolving creators, simple and ready-to-use equipment is the new preference. Studiobackdrops makes sure that new Instagram creators, YouTubers, and live streamers can have their choice of gadgets. We focus on keeping the brand relevant in the rapidly changing economy.

TechGraph: Sustainability is a decisive factor in consumer choices worldwide, even in categories like studio gear. What practical steps is Studiobackdrops taking to balance the demand for eco-conscious products with the need to remain cost-competitive in India?

Archisman Misra: Studiobackdrops has integrated sustainability into its brand in practical ways. An example of this is the Indus papers backdrops, which are recyclable and biodegradable. These backdrops offer creators a seamless finish and a professional background without adding long-term waste to the environment. Unlike other imported backdrops, it not only reduces carbon footprint from shipping but also makes them more affordable.

Their other in-house brands, Backdrops4ever and Baroque Studio, proudly create products that stand the test of time. The backdrops made by these brands last for years, reducing the unnecessary need to replace them with new products.

TechGraph: Regional creators are emerging as a cultural force beyond the metros, yet infrastructure gaps often hold them back. What role do you see Studiobackdrops playing in bridging this divide and enabling professional-grade production in smaller towns?

Archisman Misra: Regional creators have to face the challenges of infrastructure. They have limited access to equipment. The professional gear is sometimes limited to metro cities only. Companies are not able to deliver the gear in rural areas, which disconnects them from the industry.

Studiobackdrops, however, is helping to close this gap. It makes equipment accessible nationwide across 19000 + Pincodes and is continuously adding more Pincodes as well.

For regional creators who are not able to purchase expensive products in stores, Studiobackdrops provides the option of affordable camera accessories, microphones, lights, and backdrops right to their doorstep. This approach helps regional creators reach a larger audience.

TechGraph: With AI-driven tools increasingly altering how content is produced and finished, some argue the reliance on physical gear could gradually decline. Do you see AI as a threat to the traditional studio equipment market, or as a force that could complement it?

Archisman Misra: Instead of a threat, AI is changing the way content is produced. AI can help in improving various aspects of content creation like editing, retouching, and SEO, but it can’t replace the professional gear.

A clear video relies on good lighting, clear audio, polished background and equipment is necessary for that. While AI-generated backdrops are becoming widely popular, the real physical backdrops are still unmatched. The Indus paper seamless rolls and durable muslin backdrops offer realism and professionalism.

TechGraph: Lastly, as India strengthens its reputation as a global talent hub in digital storytelling, what are the opportunities and risks for an Indian-origin platform like yours to expand internationally while still staying relevant to local creators?

Archisman Misra: India is gaining the strength of global talent hubs for digital storytelling. It is a real opportunity to expand the presence in the global market. The strength of Studiobackdrops lies in providing high-quality and cost-effective gear. Indian made gear could really outshine in the global market. The value of Studiobackdrops resonates with its products and will be visible to the international audience as well.

We create great options for creators who manage budget, space, and diverse content, and the international audience will align with the brand value of Studiobackdrops. In the international market, Studiobackdrops can create a unique space for creators worldwide.
