Government invites TikTok to submit its clarification on the ban

An hour after the Government of India announced the ban on 59 Chinese apps including Tik Tok, Helo, ShareIt, and UC News.

The short video sharing platform Tik Tok said, “The Government has issued an interim order for the blocking of 59 apps, including TikTok. We have been invited to meet with concerned government shareholders for an opportunity to respond and submit clarifications.”

In a statement issued, Nikhil Gandhi, India’s Head of Tik Tok said, “Tik Tok continues to comply with all data privacy and security requirements under Indian law and has not shared any information of our users in India with any foreign government, including China.”

“We place the highest importance on user privacy and integrity,” the statement said.

Adding the statement, Nikhil Gandhi said, “Tik Tok has democratized the internet by making it available in 14 Indian languages, including millions of users, artists, storytellers, educators, and performers depending on it for their livelihood, and many of whom are first-time internet users.”
