The Ministry of Civil Aviation has constituted a high-level multi-disciplinary committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the plane crash of Air India Flight AI-171 near Ahmedabad on June 12. The flight was en route to London.
The committee, led by the Union Home Secretary, includes officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Indian Air Force, and aviation safety experts. It will review existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued to manage and prevent such incidents.
According to an order issued by the ministry, this panel will not replace the statutory investigations being undertaken by relevant agencies. Instead, it aims to formulate robust and updated SOPs to avert and manage similar occurrences more effectively in the future.
The committee will be granted full access to critical evidence, including flight data, cockpit voice recordings, maintenance logs, air traffic control records, and witness accounts. It is expected to submit a comprehensive report within three months.
