On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump said his administration played a key role in easing tensions between India and Pakistan by making future trade deals conditional on efforts to de-escalate the situation.
Speaking to the press, Trump mentioned that a ceasefire had been arranged over the weekend and suggested it could become a permanent step toward stability. He pointed out that both countries hold significant nuclear capabilities, making the situation more serious.
“It was communicated that if the situation did not improve, trade talks would not continue,” Trump said. “If you stop it, we’re doing trade. If you don’t stop it, we’re not going to do any trade.”
Trump added that this message was quickly accepted, and both nations decided to hold back further action.
