During an interview with TechGraph, Sameer Sirdeshmukh, Vice President of Aerohub, discussed how the company’s Skyview platform is enabling airlines to deliver richer in-flight experiences through a hybrid model that combines local content delivery with selective connectivity, and helping carriers optimize bandwidth use while maintaining high-quality entertainment and live event streaming without over-reliance on costly in-flight internet.

He further explained how Skyview is evolving beyond entertainment into a unified digital ecosystem that connects passengers, operations, and partners across the travel journey, integrating e-commerce, loyalty programs, and real-time services to create new revenue opportunities and extend engagement beyond the cabin.

Read the interview in detail:

TechGraph: Airlines are investing heavily in in-flight connectivity, yet the cost of bandwidth remains a constant concern. How do you see Aerohub’s wireless streaming solutions complementing IFC rather than competing with it, and what role do you think they play in helping airlines manage bandwidth more intelligently?

Sameer Sirdeshmukh: With Skyview, Aerohub takes this a step further. Skyview software can be installed directly on the airline’s connectivity hardware to enable offline content streaming, ensuring passengers always have access to a rich entertainment library without requiring continuous internet access. At the same time, Skyview empowers airlines to deliver seamless live telecasts of events—such as sports, news, or special broadcasts—without creating an additional bandwidth burden. Instead of each passenger’s device pulling the live stream individually, Skyview ingests the live feed once and securely relays it across the cabin network, giving every passenger access in real time.

TechGraph: Passengers often board with the expectation that in-flight Wi-Fi should mirror their experience at home, yet the economics rarely make that possible. How then does Aerohub help airlines strike a balance, giving passengers meaningful entertainment options without forcing carriers to overspend on bandwidth they cannot realistically monetize?

Sameer Sirdeshmukh: Passengers expect a rich in-flight experience, but providing high-speed Wi-Fi across all devices is cost-prohibitive. Aerohub/Skyview bridges this gap by offering a high-quality, local streaming platform with movies, shows, music, Games, and curated content. This ensures passengers have meaningful entertainment options without requiring continuous high-cost connectivity. Airlines can now offer a premium experience while controlling bandwidth expenses, aligning passenger satisfaction with operational feasibility.

TechGraph: The industry is increasingly turning to hybrid models where local servers deliver most entertainment while connectivity is reserved for time-sensitive features such as messaging, live updates, or e-commerce. How do you see Aerohub shaping this hybrid architecture, and what advantages does it offer over systems that depend more heavily on connectivity?

Sameer Sirdeshmukh: The hybrid model—local content delivery complemented by selective connectivity—is where Aerohub/Skyview shines. By offloading the bulk of content to onboard servers, Aerohub/Skyview reduces latency and bandwidth dependence. Connectivity can be focused on value-added services like live sports, real-time messaging, or personalized offers. Compared to fully cloud-dependent systems, Aerohub/Skyview ensures reliability even over constrained or inconsistent in-flight networks, improving passenger satisfaction and operational predictability.

TechGraph: Airlines with large and diverse fleets face the challenge of future-proofing their digital investments. If bandwidth costs continue to decline and IFC becomes more universal, how is Aerohub ensuring it will remain strategically relevant rather than being sidelined as a transitional technology?

Sameer Sirdeshmukh: Even as bandwidth costs decrease, Aerohub/Skyview remains strategically relevant because local content delivery provides advantages IFC alone cannot match: guaranteed service quality, reduced latency, and resilience against connectivity interruptions. The platform is designed to be modular and scalable—new content, features, and connectivity services can be integrated over time. This ensures Aerohub/Skyview evolves with airline digital strategies, complementing rather than being overshadowed by IFC.

To ensure the highest standards of compliance and passenger trust, Aerohub/Skyview is approved by all major Hollywood studios, with all onboard content stored in a fully encrypted format to protect digital rights. Beyond traditional licensed content, the platform also supports hyper-local caching: leading OTT titles from providers such as Netflix, Prime Video, or HBO Max can be securely cached onboard, allowing passengers to stream premium content without requiring live internet connections. This innovation saves significant bandwidth while delivering a modern, home-like entertainment experience in the air.

Importantly, Skyview is not limited to entertainment. The same platform can power retail and e-commerce experiences, enable moving maps for real-time flight tracking, provide destination content such as guides or offers, and support ancillary revenue channels through advertising and loyalty program integration. By expanding beyond entertainment, Skyview positions itself as a multi-service digital hub, giving airlines flexibility to monetize the passenger journey while delivering a richer in-flight experience.

TechGraph: The conversation around inflight connectivity often focus on passengers but overlook operational uses such as crew communication, data collection, and aircraft health monitoring. Is Aerohub exploring opportunities beyond entertainment, and if so, how do you see that reshaping your overall value proposition to airlines?

Sameer Sirdeshmukh: Aerohub/Skyview is exploring use cases beyond passenger entertainment: crew communication, data collection, predictive maintenance, and aircraft health monitoring. By integrating these operational applications into the same onboard network, airlines can centralize digital operations, reduce redundant systems, and capture real-time insights. This expands Aerohub’s value proposition from a passenger-facing service to a comprehensive digital tool for airline operations.

TechGraph: As airlines move beyond standalone systems and focus on integrated digital strategies, the competitive landscape is shifting from individual products to full ecosystems. How is Aerohub positioning itself within that shift, and what steps are you taking to make sure airlines view you as a central part of their connected future rather than just another piece of cabin hardware?

Sameer Sirdeshmukh: Airlines increasingly seek integrated digital ecosystems rather than standalone products. Aerohub/Skyview positions itself as a core platform within this ecosystem—bridging entertainment, connectivity, and operational services. We are designing APIs and integrations to work seamlessly with loyalty programs, onboard commerce, passenger personalization platforms, and ground services, ensuring airlines view Aerohub/Skyview as a central enabler of their connected cabin strategy.

Sameer Sirdeshmukh: The passenger journey is no longer defined solely by time spent in the air—it begins at booking and continues through arrival and beyond. Aerohub/Skyview sees itself as the digital bridge in this journey, turning the in-flight experience into a seamless extension of an airline’s broader customer engagement strategy. By integrating with loyalty programs, the platform allows passengers to earn and redeem points while streaming content, shopping, or engaging with onboard offers. Through personalized promotions, airlines can provide tailored recommendations based on passenger profiles, travel history, or destination, transforming the cabin into a platform for deeper engagement.

Beyond entertainment and retail, Aerohub/Skyview enables passengers to access ground services directly from their seat, such as cab bookings, hotel reservations, and curated local experiences, creating a seamless end-to-end travel experience.

To realize this vision, Aerohub/Skyview is building an ecosystem of partnerships:

  • Airlines and loyalty providers for seamless integration with frequent flyer programs.
  • E-commerce and retail platforms for in-flight shopping and ancillary revenue.
  • Content and OTT providers for premium entertainment and hyper-local cached streaming.
  • Ground service partners, including taxis, hotels, and destination service providers, so in-flight engagement extends naturally post-arrival.

In this way, Aerohub/Skyview becomes more than a streaming platform—it becomes a strategic engagement layer, connecting passengers to airlines and partners across the entire travel lifecycle, unlocking new revenue streams while enhancing the passenger experience.
