State-owned airline carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Tuesday said, “It has been suspended from flying to European Union (EU) member states for the next six months.”
In a statement issued, PAI’s spokesperson said, “The European Union Air Safety Agency (EASA) has temporarily suspended PIA’s authorization to operate in the EU member states for 6 months effective from 1 July 2020 with the right to appeal against this decision.”
According to the reports, the decision comes after Pakistan’s aviation minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan claimed that “Nearly 40 percent of all civil aviation pilots in the country hold fake licenses.”
Adding to the statement, PIA further said, “It would discontinue all its flights to Europe temporarily.”
