Facebook wants political adverts more transparent ahead of 2019 general election in India

To make its political ads more transparent and to avoid foreign interference ahead of 2019 general elections in India, Social networking giant Facebook Inc has announced that “All the advertisers who are running the political advertisement campaign, will now need to submit their proof.”

Facebook in its statement said that “All the advertisers who are planning to run the political advertisement campaign will now have to submit their identity proof and location, for the verification.”

Facebook in its statement said that “It’s important that people know more about the ads they see — especially those that political reference figures, political parties, elections, and legislation. That’s why we’re making big changes to the way we manage these ads on Facebook and Instagram.”

“By authorizing advertisers and bringing more transparency to ads, we can better defend against foreign interference in India’s elections,” it added.

Facebook has already rolled out such type of measures too in Brazil, the United States, and the U.K.
