Instagram Co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom announced in a blog that he along with Mike Krieger, Co-founder, and CTO, are quitting the organization, now owned by Facebook.
“We’re planning on taking some time off to explore our curiosity and creativity again. Building new things requires that we step back, understand what inspires us and match that with what the world needs; that’s what we plan to do,” Systrom said in his blog.
This exit has come few months after Jan Koum, co-founder of Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp, had quit the organization, leaving the social media giant without the developers behind two of its biggest revenue generators.
It must also be noted that this departure has come at a time when Facebook is facing heat because of its dubious customer data protection policies. Now is the time for Facebook to stand the tough times and it is yet to be seen how the social media firm tackles the challenge.
