The U.S. justice department filed a lawsuit on Sunday against California Governor soon after he signed a legislation to reinstate net neutrality in the state. This step is in complete contradiction with Trump administration’s rules that repealed net neutrality back in 2017.
The event has sparked a new wave of clash between Trump administration and California that have locked horns previously over environmental, immigration, and other burning issues.
Jeff Sessions, U.S. Attorney General said in a statement “States do not regulate interstate commerce — the federal government does. Once again the California legislature has enacted an extreme and illegal state law attempting to frustrate federal policy.”
The U.S. government said in a statement that the state of California need to conform to the federal government laws and warned: “the effect of this state legislation would be to nullify federal law across the country.”
