X Corp, an Elon Musk-owned social media firm, sued the Indian government in the Karnataka High Court on Thursday, alleging that broad powers to remove online content under the nation’s tech laws are illegal and threaten its business.
According to a media report, “The lawsuit targets Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act, which allows authorities to demand post-removals. X argued that India applies it without due process, disrupting its platform in a key market.”
X formerly known as Twitter also rejected Sahyog, a government portal run by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre to manage takedowns, calling it legally baseless. The company said it already meets 2021 IT rules with appointed officers.
