The Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA) has requested the Central Government to add personnel working in the telecom infrastructure segment under the frontline workers group for the COVID-19 vaccine.
In a letter sent by TR Dua, Director General of TAIPA, to Telecom secretary Anshu Prakash said, “The frontline workforce of telecom infrastructure providers continues to provide services regularly despite the grave risk posed by the COVID-19.”
“Hence, it is essential that they are categorized under the frontline workers category so that they are given priority for administering the COVID-19 prevention vaccine,” he said.
According to TAIPA, there are more than 45,000 workers in the segment who are worked round the clock during the pandemic to provide digital connectivity across the country.
