Read the complete interview:

TechGraph: GM Modular has been a prominent player in the home electrical products sector. How do you see the industry evolving in India, and what role does GM Modular envision playing in this dynamic landscape in the coming years?

Jayanth Jain: The demand for home electrical products is expected to rise significantly as the Indian economy expands and urbanization accelerates. With the government’s focus on initiatives like Make in India and Smart Cities, there will be a greater emphasis on energy-efficient and technologically advanced electrical solutions.

GM Modular is at the forefront of this dynamic landscape by constantly inventing and providing a diverse selection of energy-efficient, technologically advanced electrical solutions that meet the changing needs of Indian consumers. By utilizing our expertise in Home electrical and automation technology, we hope to help Indian homes achieve a more sustainable and convenient future.

TechGraph: The demand for home automation is on the rise globally. How is GM Modular adapting its product offerings to meet the growing consumer expectations for smart and connected homes?

Jayanth Jain: We realize the growing need for home automation and keep expanding our product offerings to meet rising consumer expectations. Our team is creating unique smart solutions that effortlessly integrate with existing home infrastructure, giving users a more convenient and connected living experience.

We introduced products such as GBus and iFi Pro. People who are building their homes from scratch can consider Gbus, which requires complete wiring. On the other side, we launched iFi Pro, a retrofit option that is easy to install. It can be installed in existing wiring in a matter of hours, and if pro allows you to convert your home into a smart home.

Its most significant feature is its customizability. Connections like switches, fan lights, and other gadgets can be added as needed, whether for a single room or the entire house. Furthermore, we are investing in R&D to stay ahead of developing technologies and keep their products at the forefront of the evolving smart home market.

TechGraph: In the context of the government’s push towards sustainable and energy-efficient solutions, how is GM Modular incorporating innovation and sustainability in its product development?

Jayanth Jain: By focusing on modern technologies and materials, we at GM Modular are merging innovation and sustainability into our product development. For instance, we are incorporating smart features into our electrical switches and plugs, which will allow users to track and regulate their energy consumption.

Other products, including GM LED bulbs and BLDC ceiling fans, are energy efficient. These products are intended to use less electricity and produce fewer carbon emissions. We are not only giving convenience to our customers, but we are also promoting energy efficiency.

TechGraph: The home automation market often involves collaboration with other technology providers. Could you share any strategic partnerships or collaborations GM Modular has engaged in to enhance its position in the market?

Jayanth Jain: GM Modular has indeed engaged in strategic partnerships and collaborations to strengthen its position in the home automation market. The first and foremost alliance that we entered into was KNX, back in 2013.

Then, GM Modular was the only Indian-origin company that was certified to offer KNX-approved solutions. We were the first Indian company to manufacture a KNX-compliant automation system.

Additionally, we collaborated with Tuya and were the first to offer 100% WiFi-based retrofit automation. This was a strong move for the Indian market; the customer had access to full home automation in the wireless category.

Wireless, or as we call it, retrofit, is the fastest-growing vertical, and we are proud to be a trailblazer in this segment. These strategic collaborations allowed us to tap into the growing demand for wireless automation and establish ourselves as leaders in this space.

Jayanth Jain: We completely comprehend the importance of data security and privacy in smart homes. To solve this issue, we have implemented robust methods of encryption and improved authentication procedures to protect user data. Our devices communicate via our in-house built GM Konnect App.

Our internal team takes all required steps to protect the data. Furthermore, we constantly update the firmware on our devices to stay ahead of potential vulnerabilities and ensure that our smart home ecosystem meets industry-leading privacy standards.

TechGraph: In India, affordability is a crucial factor in the widespread adoption of technology. How is GM Modular making its home automation solutions accessible to a broader segment of the population?

Jayanth Jain: We are making our home automation solutions available to a larger portion of the Indian population by focusing on value without compromising quality. We have launched cost-effective choices that appeal to a variety of budgets, allowing more people to benefit from smart home technology.

As of today, public awareness is quite low; therefore, we are constantly offering educational content through various means to help people comprehend home automation and its benefits. We are also performing many marketing initiatives with architects and electricians to build a bridge to the end user.

Furthermore, we provide simple installation and user-friendly interfaces, guaranteeing that home automation solutions are accessible and convenient for all consumers, independent of technical experience.

TechGraph: The pandemic has accelerated the adoption of smart technologies in homes. How has this shift in consumer behavior influenced GM Modular product development and market strategies?

Jayanth Jain: Recognizing the growing demand for smart home solutions, we actively incorporate modern technology into our product portfolio. We have concentrated on creating innovative solutions that address changing customer needs, such as smart switches, Wi-Fi-enabled devices, and home automation systems. Furthermore, we have modified our market strategy to target tech-savvy consumers who value ease, energy efficiency, and connectivity in their homes.

TechGraph: Lastly, what do you see as the biggest challenges and opportunities for the home electrical products industry in India, and how is GM Modular positioned to navigate these challenges and capitalize on emerging opportunities?

Jayanth Jain: In India, understanding of home automation is quite low, therefore supplying clients with educational and relevant information is critical. By doing so, we may help raise awareness and knowledge of the advantages and possibilities of home automation.

Another important opportunity for India‘s home electrical products market is the focus on energy-saving and portable smart electrical devices to meet customer expectations.

As customers’ concerns about energy efficiency and sustainability grow, so does the demand for smart electrical appliances that may help them conserve energy and minimize their carbon footprint. We are well-positioned to capitalize on this potential by delivering a choice of energy-saving and portable smart electrical solutions that fulfill customer expectations.
