The Bengaluru Police has seized a Bitcoin worth Rs 9 crore from an Indian hacker named Shri Krishna.
Speaking to the Indian Express, Bengaluru Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Patil said, “The Bengaluru Police has seized 31 bitcoins worth Rs 9 crore from accused Shri Krishna – A resident of Jaya Nagar in Bengaluru. Along with five other accused – Suneesh Hedge, Prasad Shetty, Sujay, Hemanth Mudappa, and Robin Khandelwal”
“Accused Shri Krishna along with his five friends hacked five bitcoin exchange platforms, and ten poker websites by pushing malware into them stole their data, and used it in their gaming sites. We have shared all the information with the companies concerned through Interpol,” Patil said.
“After hacking the website and stealing their data and money. He used to convert it into Bitcoins and later traded to another accused identified as Robin Khandelwal for money,” Patil told the press.
“Robin Khandelwal was trading these Bitcoins through hawala channels, and later he deposited the money in Krishna’s bank account,” he said.
“Shri Krishna and his friend used bitcoin for buying drugs through the darknet, and to stay in hotels and resorts,” he added.
In August 2019, Shri Krishna was booked for stealing Rs 11 crore from Karnataka Government’s E-procurement portal.
