As per a document made public on Thursday, the Trump administration plans to revise the safety rules of self-driven cars that forbid such vehicle to run on roads without equipment such as steering wheels, pedals, and mirrors.
“The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) intends to reconsider the necessity and appropriateness of its current safety standards as applied to automated vehicles,” said the 80 -page update dubbed as ‘Automated Vehicle 3.0’ from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
While speaking to Reuters the Transportation Department commented that they propose to change the safety standards in order to accommodate the autonomous cars and setting up certain standards that are applicable in the presence of human drivers.
With the discussions encircling autonomous cars, this step is a welcome change in growing the acceptance and popularity of self-driven cars in the U.S. market.
