Paras Jha, a Mirai Botnet hacker ordered to Pay $8.2 million in damage

The U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey has said: “The federal court has found Paras Jha, guilty in the charge of violating the Computer Fraud & Abuse Act.”

Paras Jha, 22-year old hacker was ordered to pay $8.6 million in damages and sent to house arrest for six months for helping to launch a series of massive cyber attacks.

Paras Jha was one of three people who was charged for hacking Mirai Botnet, a network of more than 100,000 internet-connected devices.

The affected systems were used for enjoying the financial gains in advertisement fraud and launching the cyber attacks against the business websites by flooding it with massive internet access request through a botnet.

The advertising fraud involves creating fake clicks to trick advertisers including the big companies like Rutgers University in New Jersey, Digital infrastructure provider Dyn, A unit of Oracle Corp including others, to pay more for renting ad space on a site.

In a separate conspiracy in Alaska, Paras founded guilty in December 2017, for violation of Computer Fraud & Abuse Act.

Alaska District court than sentenced him with 2,500 hours of community service “to include continued work with the FBI on cybercrime and cybersecurity matters” and pay $127,000 in restitution.

Two others who found guilty in the use of Mirai for criminal gain are Josiah White (20) and Dalton Norman who is 21 years old.
