Bangladesh’s next general election is expected to be held in the second week of February 2026, following a meeting between Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman in London on Friday.
In a press briefing, Bangladesh’s National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman stated that Tarique Rahman proposed to Dr Yunus that the election be held before the beginning of Ramadan next year, which is likely to commence on February 17, subject to lunar sighting.
The meeting between Yunus and Tarique, described as historic, lasted for nearly one and a half hours and included discussions on key matters concerning the upcoming general election in Bangladesh.
