OVHcloud, the leading European cloud provider, has announced its plans to acquire Gridscale, a German-based hyper-converged infrastructure software provider.
The acquisition is expected to be finalized at the beginning of the 2024 fiscal year and will not affect the 2023 fiscal year.
With Gridscale’s strong presence in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, the acquisition will provide OVHcloud with a competitive edge in the Public Cloud market, offering customers more agile and flexible solutions.
OVHcloud also plans to expand on-premises cloud services by offering its products to customers’ infrastructures. This move caters to the most demanding use cases concerning data residency or local data processing.
“Customers who wish to retain ownership of their infrastructure will now benefit from cloud-native functionalities and the extensive portfolio of 80 IaaS and PaaS solutions provided by OVHcloud,” the company said.
Moreover, this acquisition will allow OVHcloud to accelerate international deployment while carefully managing its investment trajectory. The company intends to open numerous new Public Cloud regions by 2026, strategically situated in colocation data centers.
This expansion will be carried out with limited investments, in line with the company’s revenue growth strategy.
“OVHcloud’s first focus will be on establishing new regions in major global cities, with plans to implement the multi-AZ (Availability Zones) model rapidly in select regions, all while keeping investments in check,” the statement further added.
As part of the acquisition, Gridscale’s management team, founders, and employees will join the OVHcloud workforce. This pooling of skills and products is expected to expedite the development of fully integrated Edge Computing capacity into OVHcloud’s existing product offerings. The new offering will be consumable through existing APIs, ensuring a consistent user experience for customers.
Commenting on the acquisition, OVHcloud CEO Michel Paulin said, “We are impressed by the solutions developed by the Gridscale teams, which we will integrate into OVHcloud. Our solutions and know-how are highly compatible and complementary. The combination of our different technologies will allow us to accelerate our deployment of Edge Computing solutions and our geographical expansion while optimizing our capital allocation.”
Further talking about the development, Henrik Hasenkamp, founder, and CEO of Gridscale said, “Joining OVHcloud is a great opportunity for gridscale. Their know-how and global footprint will enable us to deploy and enrich our products, at scale, quickly, and by our shared values. We look forward, along with the entire team, to working with the OVHcloud teams, and our ambitions are reinforced thanks to this trajectory now in common.”
