Read the complete interview:

TechGraph: Vehant Technologies has been at the forefront of smart surveillance and traffic monitoring in India for a while now. So, from your perspective, how has the landscape of surveillance and traffic management evolved in India over the last few years?

Shailendra Kumar Singh: Over the last few years, the surveillance and traffic management solutions in India have changed dramatically as a result of the integration of smart technology like Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), Speed Violation Detection – Radar, Wrong way Detection, Driver on Phone Detection, and various other traffic violation detection solution in real-time.

Over the years, our ANPR system has improved the efficiency and precision of vehicle monitoring in various smart cities & ITMS projects including Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, Agra, Bareilly, Bengaluru – Mysuru Highways, and others, allowing for real-time tracking, traffic rule enforcement, and increased security.

With the growth of smart cities, there is a greater emphasis on intelligent traffic management systems that employ AI and machine learning to detect and identify incidents. This shift toward automation not only improves traffic flow but also reduces congestion and assures safer roadways, indicating a transformative approach in Indian cities.

TechGraph: Given the rapid urbanization and growing vehicle density in Indian cities, what do you think are the biggest challenges in traffic enforcement today, and how is Vehant Technologies addressing these challenges?

Shailendra Kumar Singh: The rapid urbanization and increasing vehicle density in Indian cities have led to significant traffic enforcement challenges, including a high volume of traffic violations, congestion, and limited enforcement resources. Monitoring and managing these issues manually is difficult, leading to inefficiencies and compromised road safety.

Vehant Technologies tackles these issues with advanced traffic monitoring solutions. Their vehicle incident detection and enforcement systems provide real-time monitoring and data-driven insights to manage traffic flow effectively and enhance road safety.

By leveraging these technologies, Vehant helps government and private authorities streamline enforcement processes, reduce congestion, and promote compliance, enabling data-driven SOPs for improving the nation’s overall traffic management in urban areas.

TechGraph: There’s an ongoing conversation about the role of AI and machine learning in enhancing surveillance and enforcement systems. How is Vehant integrating these technologies into its solutions, and what impact do you believe they have had on the effectiveness of traffic and junction enforcement?

Shailendra Kumar Singh: Vehant Technologies leverages AI and machine learning through its TrafficMon suite, an advanced traffic enforcement and monitoring solution. By utilizing these technologies, TrafficMon automatically detects and processes traffic violations like red light violations, high speeding, no helmet usage, seat belt usage violations illegal parking, etc with high accuracy and in real-time. The system continuously learns and adapts, improving its ability to identify and track various incidents, ensuring no false detections.

According to The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in India, 72.3% of total road accidents were caused by overspeeding in 2022. To prevent these incidents technology can become a partner with the revolution of AI and ML-equipped real-time monitoring and surveillance by 24/7 system for vehicles and assisting police in detection and registering cases of speed violations against the people.

The impact of this integration is significant, as it allows for efficient, automated monitoring that reduces dependency on manual oversight. This enhances the consistency and effectiveness of traffic and junction enforcement, leading to safer and more orderly urban roads.

TechGraph: Regarding adoption, how receptive have local governments and municipalities been to advanced, tech-based traffic monitoring solutions? Are there any specific regions or cities in India that stand out for embracing smart enforcement technologies?

Shailendra Kumar Singh: Governments and municipalities in India have shown growing receptiveness to adopting advanced, tech-based traffic monitoring solutions, recognizing the need for smarter infrastructure to manage urban growth.

Cities like Hyderabad, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Raipur, Surat, and Ahmedabad are leading the way in implementing intelligent traffic systems and enforcement technologies. These cities have adopted solutions like Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD), automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), and surveillance systems at major intersections, contributing to safer and more efficient traffic management.

The implementation of these technologies has been particularly notable in Hyderabad, where smart enforcement systems have been integrated to manage congestion and reduce violations effectively. Agra, Lucknow, Surat, and Ahmedabad have also been proactive, leveraging tech-based solutions to monitor traffic in real-time and improve overall road safety.

The support from local authorities in these regions highlights a shift towards embracing innovation and the potential of technology to create safer, smarter urban spaces across the country.

TechGraph: Data privacy is a major concern when it comes to surveillance. How does Vehant balance the need for effective monitoring with the need to protect individual privacy rights?

Shailendra Kumar Singh: Vehant Technologies ensures data privacy by implementing robust measures that balance effective monitoring and privacy protection. The company enforces strict access controls, allowing only authorized personnel to access and handle surveillance data, thereby minimizing the risk of misuse.

Vehant also complies with data protection regulations and maintains transparency about its data handling practices, clearly informing the public about how data is collected and used. Additionally, the company integrates ethical AI principles to minimize bias and uphold transparency, ensuring that its monitoring solutions remain effective while respecting individual privacy rights.

TechGraph: With India’s focus on creating smart cities, how do you see Vehant Technologies contributing to this vision? What role do you think intelligent surveillance and traffic systems will play in building safer, more efficient urban spaces?

Shailendra Kumar Singh: Vehant Technologies is committed to supporting India’s smart city vision by addressing critical challenges such as hit-and-run, road accidents, and incidents caused by reckless driving. With road accidents occurring at an unprecedented rate, Vehant’s intelligent surveillance and traffic management systems play a vital role in enhancing urban safety. Their solutions focus on monitoring speeding vehicles, detecting traffic violations, and identifying incidents in real-time, which helps to reduce accidents and ensure efficient enforcement of traffic laws.

By aligning its efforts with global initiatives like the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, Vehant aims to contribute to reducing road traffic injuries and fatalities by 50% by 2030. Intelligent surveillance systems not only improve road safety but also aid in crime prevention and rapid response, creating safer and more efficient urban spaces essential for smart cities.

TechGraph: Looking ahead, what innovations or developments can we expect from Vehant Technologies in the near future, especially in the context of improving traffic management and surveillance across the country?

Shailendra Kumar Singh: At Vehant Technologies, we take pride in our contribution to the development of enhanced technological means of traffic control and surveillance via our research and development.

Futuristic trends in AI, machine learning, and multi-sensor data integration ensure that solutions such as ITMS, VIDES, VMS, FRS, and other solutions remain relevant even as new trends emerge.

Currently, we aim to combine real-time data processing with predictive analytics, remotely associated event detection, and quick management in order to enhance decision-making, ease traffic movement, and maintain data and privacy.

With increasing pressure in cities all over the country, our solution is flexible and scalable and will provide solutions to these problems enhancing smarter, safer, and more connected cities. We hope we will be the ones who change the world using smart city technology.
