The UK-based food delivery company Deliveroo is on the verge of being acquired by Uber since the transportation giant is expanding its horizon in the takeaway deliver domain. Deliveroo’s CEO, Will Shu, has been offered nearly £1.5m ($200m) for the deal. However, there hasn’t been any confirmation on the final outcome.
With the ever-increasing popularity of online food ordering, the delivery market is expected to be worth £279bn by 2030, up from £27bn today. While this data is overwhelming, every tech-oriented firm is looking for an opportunity to foray into this marketplace and Uber is not an exception. Already facing stiff competition from Grubhub in the US, Uber aims to scale up in the UK market through the aforementioned acquisition.
While there is a lot of skepticism and the final call has yet to be taken, many analysts suggest that Deliveroo might as well get a more lucrative offer.
