The Vanguard Group has reported that it now holds less than a 5 percent stake in Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) following an internal realignment of its business structure.
The disclosure was made in a regulatory filing dated March 13, 2026, which showed that Vanguard no longer reports beneficial ownership of Alphabet shares at the group level, with holdings now disaggregated across its subsidiaries and business divisions.
The company stated that the restructuring was carried out in accordance with earlier SEC guidance, under which certain subsidiaries that previously reported holdings jointly will now disclose ownership separately, while continuing to follow the same investment strategies.
The filing further states that Vanguard does not hold sole or shared voting or dispositive power over Alphabet shares at the parent level following the realignment, with aggregate beneficial ownership reported at zero.
