In an attempt to engage the local audience and bloggers, Russian search engine giant Yandex has announced the launch of ‘Sloy,’ an Augmented Reality-based short video app for fashion and style bloggers and users.
Sloy, which is also known as ‘layer’ in Russian, will use machine learning technology to allow its users to create 90 seconds videos in genre from fashion to unboxing and to let peoples and brands by choosing them from their personalized recommended content feed. The app will also provide video editing tools, filters, masks, special effects, and music tracks before uploading them.
Speaking on the app launch, Danill Trabun, Head of Sloy, said: “With Sloy, the augmented reality will completely change the way we interact with style and fashion. By allowing users to try things on virtually, and opening new social layers for communicating with our friends and subscribers.”
“This concept brings the opportunity to not only follow fashion trends on social media but also explore the world of style with an AR-enabled app. AR apps will also open a new market for brand advertising targeted to young audiences in digital reality,” danill added.
“The app is currently available for iOS users, with the plan to launch android version by early 2020,” further added.

Sloy is an AR-based social media platform dedicated to fashion and style. The app uses advanced computer version technology to automatically recognize and tag items of clothing in videos and by clicking on tagged items. The users can view videos with similar wardrobe items uploaded by other users and automatically retrieved.
The app will also allow the users to comment on all tagged items and save them to their collection and to create their collections made from similar items or discuss a specific clothing or footwear items with others on the platform.
