Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) has reopened its reconstructed Terminal 2, inaugurated by Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, bringing the terminal back into operation nearly forty years after it first opened and positioning it to handle higher passenger traffic with faster and more technology-enabled processing.
The new Terminal 2 features self-baggage drop counters, virtual information desks, autonomous passenger boarding bridges and improved accessibility support for passengers with reduced mobility, while the security infrastructure has been fully modernised to align with the growth in domestic air traffic and evolving screening standards.
As part of the revamped security setup, homegrown security solutions provider Vehant Technologies has installed 18 Kritiscan dual-view X-ray baggage inspection systems across the terminal, systems developed and manufactured in India under the Make in India programme and designed to provide simultaneous dual-angle scans that reduce blind spots for security personnel and enable quicker baggage clearance without slowing passenger flow, which becomes critical as Terminal 2 resumes operations with more than 120 domestic departures every day.
Vehant Technologies noted that installation and commissioning of the screening systems were completed ahead of the terminal’s reopening and added that its technology is already deployed at Terminal 1 of IGI Airport, supporting continuous security operations at one of the busiest aviation hubs in the country.
Commenting on the deployment, Kapil Bardeja, Co-founder and CEO of Vehant Technologies, said, “The revamp of Delhi Airport’s Terminal 2 represents a significant step forward for India’s aviation infrastructure, where security technology is playing an increasingly key role in shaping passenger experience.”
“The strength of India’s technological self-reliance is not just enhanced, but also the indigenous innovation’s ability to meet international aviation security standards is demonstrated through this technology. We are very pleased to help one of the world’s busiest airports in terms of safety infrastructure and government vision for a secure, efficient, and self-sufficient India,” Bardeja further added.
