Former Wipro Chairman and Managing Director Azim Premji have urged the Central Government to engage private sectors to drive vaccination of COVID-19.
Speaking at the virtual event organized by the Bangalore Chamber of Industry, Azim Premji said, “While the government is doing its best, I would strongly suggest that they should supplement the effort by involving the private players.”
“There is a possibility that Serum Institute of India (SII), provides vaccine at about Rs 300 per shot to hospitals and private nursing homes, which can then administer the jab for Rs 100 per shot. So, within Rs 400 per shot, it is possible to do a mass vaccination of the population,” Premji told the Chamber.
Adding to this, he further said, “If the government engaged the private industry quickly, India could immunize 500 million people within 60 days.”
