Australian police on Thursday arrested a 23- year old woman on a charge of stealing cryptocurrency worth of $320,000 (nearly $450,000 AU).
According to the reports, “The lady hacked into and changed the password of a 56-year-old man’s email account, and then she used her mobile phone to gain access to the man’s cryptocurrency wallet and transferred 100,000 XRP to an account in China.”
In a statement issued by Arthur Katsogiannis, Detective Superintendent at New South Wales Police said: “It’s the first that we know of its type in Australia where an individual has been arrested and charged for the technology-enabled theft of cryptocurrency.”
“This is the first and largest cryptocurrency theft by a single person and expects this type of crime to increase in coming years,” Detectives added.
