The U.S. based micro-blogging site Twitter Inc on Thursday announced that “It has reported 45.6 million tweets on its platform during a first-month period ahead of the Lok Sabha election 2019, including 1.2 million tweets in the first day of the voting.”

The company in its statement said that “The Campaigns, Manifestos, and announcements around the policies and the key social issues have accounted for some of the top-tweeted moments as the voters get ready to go for the polls.”

“The Twitter handle of Prime Minister Narendra Modi (@narendramodi), INC India President Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) has been the most mentioned figures during the first phase conversation of the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 on the Twitter,” the company added.
In a survey done by Twitter India last month, the company said that more than 90 percent of the voters are expected to be the first-time voters who are expected vote for the first time.

The survey said that “Nearly to the 54.6 percent will be using the twitter to gather the support for the cause of the movement while 54.4 percent will use the platform to express their opinions to get heard.” While 80 percent of people said that “they would turn to social to find out what’s happening in India and around the world.”

Adding to this Twitter said that “The top election conversations held on the platform between 11-March to 11 April were mainly related to national security, religion, jobs, agriculture, taxes, and trade.”
