A U.S based search engine giant Google Inc on Monday announced a brand new top-level domain (TLD) dedicated to developers.
The new TLD will allow the developers to created communities, learn new technologies as well as to showcase their projects with the new domain name.
In a blog post, Ben Fried, VP, Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief Domains Enthusiast wrote that “The new .dev TLD will be available for register till 28 Feb as a part of our Early Access Programme where the customers can register their designer domains for an additional fee.”
He added, “At the beginning of Feb 28, the .dev domains will be available at a base annual price through the customer’s registrar of choice.”
“The new domain will be secure by default because it requires HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) to connect to all .dev websites. With every .dev website that’s launched, you help move the web to an HTTPS-everywhere future,” the post added.
Some of the brands like GitHub, Mozilla, Netflix, Glitch, Women Who Code, and Stripe and others have already started using the new domains for its projects like web.dev and opensource.dev
