U.S. leading social networking giant Facebook Inc on Friday announced the appointment of the U.S. treasury’s former deputy secretary Robert Kimmitt as a lead independent director.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in its statement said, “The lead independent director is an important role for us and we have been looking for a leader who can bring significant oversight and government experience.”
“Jeffrey Zients, CEO of Cranemere Group Ltd, will not stand for re-election at the annual meeting of stockholders,” the statement said.
Adding to the statement, the company also said, “Even though, Zients will continue to serve as a director till the day of the meeting.”
Speaking on the appointment, Robert Kimmitt said, “I am excited to take on this leadership role on Facebook’s board, as the company continues to improve the ways technology and innovation can bring us together. This moment, in particular, is an incredibly important time to help people connect. I look forward to working with Mark, Sheryl, and the rest of the board to further the company’s mission.”
