The menstrual cycle is one of the most significant phases every woman goes through regularly. This brings some tricky times for them, which can include cramps, PMS, mood swings and various cravings, etc. Needless to say, amid this chaotic period oftentimes, paying attention to other essential practices is easy to forget.

These habits are essential to lead a healthy lifestyle as neglecting them can induce several health problems which unfortunately many women are still not aware of.

This can be because menstrual care is still an ambiguous topic in Indian society. But as the world is evolving women are becoming more conscious of how important these practices are for the sake of self-care.

Therefore, learning about menstrual care practices can help them make healthier choices and ensure their health and well-being in a better way.

Practices related to bodily hygiene during the menses

For instance, during the menses the chances of getting irritating rashes increases due to the use of sanitary products. Furthermore, the additionally moist environment can prompt bacterial growth leading to chronic infections in their private parts.

Hence, to prevent such things from happening, maintaining a clean environment is essential during this time. Girls can choose to use any pH-balancing mild cleaning products to wash the area gently. This can keep other things like odor and infections at bay.

Furthermore, girls should also indulge in the habit of changing their sanitary napkins at regular intervals which should probably last around 6 hours. It can be more or less depending on the amount of flow and day of the cycle but try not to leave it for 24 hours or more.

This is crucial because menstrual blood attracts and harbors various organisms that constantly multiply in a warm environment. This could potentially increase the risk of urinary tract infections and changing the sanitary napkins or tampons regularly will prevent them from spreading the infection.

Stay nourished with a healthy diet

Menstrual cycles just like every other area of healthcare are directly impacted by one’s dietary habits. It becomes vital that women intake a balanced diet that is enriched with ample nutrients to regulate their cycle properly. This ensures reproductive health and progresses a monthly cycle promptly.

Moreover, this will reduce their painful cramps and their dependence on painkiller medicines. Painkillers are generally considered an obvious solution for heavy cramps, but they can induce severe side effects and might cause chronic disorders after prolonged use.

Therefore painkillers should only be used as a last resort and instead, girls should focus on getting ample supplements as an alternative. A nutrient-rich diet with essential vitamins, minerals, and protein will facilitate a good menstrual cycle and it will naturally reduce period pain effectively.

Remain active even during the menses

Many women used to avoid attending gyms or doing physical exercises during their menses due to feeling uncomfortable. However, It is important to remember that menstruation has always been a normal part of people’s lives. Therefore, like regular days exercising during menstruation is just as beneficial if not more.

Physical exercises often reduce symptoms like bloating, fatigue, cramps, and headache during the period. But if one begins to experience more fatigue due to physical workouts they can always opt for lighter exercises such as stretching, yoga, or tai chi. In the end, being active will always help nevertheless.

Conclusion

It is clear that practices such as consuming a healthy diet, regularly exercising, and ensuring proper hygiene during the menstrual cycle will help women in significant aspects. But still, it is considered good sense to occasionally visit their trusted gynecologist or OBGYN. As they can help them clear any misconceptions or doubts they may have about their cycle.

Getting periodical check-ups should be opted as a regular habit by women of ages over 18-20. As it is common for their cycle to constantly evolve as they age hence, getting regular consultations with their doctors will help them keep track of any underlying changes in advance.
