Bangladesh and Pakistan have resumed direct trade for the first time since 1971. The initial shipment of rice departing from Pakistan’s Port Qasim was part of a government-to-government agreement.
According to the Reuters report, “Pakistan will supply Bangladesh with 50,000 metric tons of white rice at $499 per ton through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan.”
However, the price of rice is higher than that of rice from Vietnam, which Bangladesh has been importing at $474.25 per ton.

The shipment is being delivered in two phases, with 25,000 tons already en route and the remainder expected in early March.
