In a strategic move aimed at boosting investment in Karnataka, the Minister of Large & Medium Industries & Infrastructure Development, M.B. Patil, extended a formal invitation to US-based aerospace giant RTX Corporation (formerly Raytheon Technologies) and integrated satellite network provider Intelsat to consider investments in the state.
Patil, along with a delegation of senior officials, including Dr. S. Selvakumar, Principal Secretary, Department of Commerce and Industries, Government of Karnataka, and Smt. Gunjan Krishna, Commissioner for Industrial Development and Director, Industries & Commerce, and others are on a 12-day visit to the United States to engage with a diverse range of industries, including semiconductor, aerospace & defense, auto/EV, space, and Med-tech.
During his meeting with RTX Corporation, Minister Patil discussed the potential for forging partnerships, with a focus on enhancing supply chain connections and the prospect of electronics manufacturing within Karnataka.
RTX Corporation’s subsidiary, Blue Canyon, expressed interest in collaborating with space industry startups for technological advancements. The company also explored opportunities for partnerships with the government and educational institutions to nurture a talent pipeline.
With a staggering $67.1 billion in revenue, RTX Corporation has maintained a presence in India for over 25 years, operating an R&D facility, customer training center, and engineering unit in Bengaluru.
Addressing industry leaders in the United States, Minister Patil stated, “We are going to meet some of the prestigious companies here in the United States to understand their requirements and invite them to Karnataka for expansion or collaboration.”
RTX Corporation in India operates through four divisions – Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney, Raytheon Intelligence & Space, and Raytheon Missiles and Defense.
With a workforce exceeding 5,000 professionals, the company actively participates in design, capability, and engineering centers. Its client portfolio includes Indian airlines, airports, and major commercial manufacturers such as Boeing and Airbus.
In a related development, Pratt and Whitney inaugurated a new India Engineering Center in Bengaluru in January 2023, co-located with its India Capabilities Center, which was established in 2022 to provide integrated global supply chain support.
Additionally, Raytheon has a manufacturing facility and two research and development centers in Bengaluru.
The delegation also engaged in discussions with the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (Intelsat), known for its longstanding collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Intelsat explored opportunities to expand its operational scope within India and discussed satellite-sourcing possibilities from Indian space startups. The company also deliberated on potential collaborations in software solutions and the integration of AI/ML in satellite communications. Intelsat is considering the establishment of a global capability center as part of its long-term plans in India.
Separately, during the US India SME Council Meet, Minister M.B. Patil interacted with approximately 30 CEOs from various sectors, extending invitations to invest in Karnataka.
The Minister outlined investment opportunities in sectors such as Medtech, ITBT, education, automobile, aerospace & defense, and Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM). The CEOs were encouraged to explore investment prospects within the state.
During the visit, he also held meetings with Elisha Pulivarti, CEO and President of the U.S. India SME Council, Rajan Natarajan, CEO and Founder of Global Alliance, and Marc Elrich, Executive for the Government of Montgomery County, Maryland.
