NEW YORK, Nov. 17, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- A 3D video of a black dog, running joyfully across the grassy White House lawn, its luxurious fur flowing, has captured attention in New York Times Square.

This black dog, unveiled on November 11th, resembles 'Bo,' the beloved First Dog of the United States during the tenure of former President Barack Obama. With its sparkling black eyes, white socks-like front paws, and a sleek black fur coat, the dog resembles Bo. Despite its brief 15-second duration, the video conveys the earnest gaze of Bo, expressing a longing to reunite with its family through XOOX. This heartfelt expression is deeply moving for many who have lost their pets. There is particular interest in how the Obama family, who adored Bo, will react to this video.

The video was created on the pet-exclusive pet networking service(PNS) application XOOX, based on short-form content challenges. XOOX, which was launched on the 11th, is currently developing avatars of departed pets. Utilizing videos and photos captured during their lifetime, XOOX aims to create avatars closely resembling the pets. According to XOOX, this allows families to reunite with their departed pets, comforting those who miss their beloved companions. Kristen Kim, the PR manager at XOOX, stated, "With the consent of pet owners, we use data from registered pets to create avatars. The purpose of creating pet avatars is to convey emotions and healing through encounters that transcend time and space."

XOOX is an application operated through pet accounts, not human ones. XOOX provides a service function that analyzes the patterns around the eyelids and eyes of pets to register their Face Detection biometric ID and then verify their identification. XOOX has launched various specialized pet applications, including pet-exclusive music, urine diagnostic kits, and games, alongside its main application based on short-form content challenges. Additionally, they plan to release an application integrating pet DNA and MBTI, building on the launch of the pet urine diagnostic kit app developed in collaboration with Medi Cloud, a global genetic analysis company based on NGS technology.

Built by Nature to award €500,000 in first global prize focused on biobased construction materials

AMSTERDAM, Nov. 16, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Built by Nature, a network and grant-making fund, has announced a global prize totalling €500,000 to recognise innovation and stimulate scalability in the use of biobased materials such as timber, bamboo, hemp, straw, algae, and fungi in construction.

The built environment generates up to 40% of the world's greenhouse gases, and the increased use of sustainably sourced timber and renewable biobased materials offers a tangible, realistic solution to address climate change through decarbonisation of our cities and buildings.

The Built by Nature Prize aims to identify and attract biobased construction material manufacturers and their market-ready innovations from all regions and help those producers overcome barriers to mainstream market entry.

"Given the scale of urban development that is inevitable around the world over the coming decades, we simply cannot afford to build in the way we have in most of Europe for the last few hundred years. We urgently need to find innovative, renewable, low-carbon construction materials to radically reduce the embodied carbon footprint of new buildings and cities." according to Paul King, Built by Nature CEO. Built by Nature has awarded €3.3 million in grants to date with additional co-funding of €2.2 million toward 28 projects across Europe focused on developing solutions to overcome barriers and stimulate increased uptake of biobased materials, with a focus on mass timber.

To reflect the global scope of the Prize, the judging panel is comprised of leading experts from the built environment, architecture, finance, social value, and biomaterials from around the world. Dr Yasmeen Lari, Pakistan's first female architect and renowned for her leadership at the intersection of architecture and social justice, will serve as Honorary Advisor to the Built by Nature Prize. The Prize jury members are:

  • Arief Rabik – Chair and Founder of Bamboo Village Trust, and founder and CEO of PT Indobamboo Lestari in Indonesia.
  • Ariel Shtarkman – Managing Partner of Undivided Ventures, Founder of Orca Capital, co-Founder and Managing Director of Atom Assets.
  • Mae-ling Lokko, from Ghana and the Philippines, is Assistant Professor at Yale University's School of Architecture, specialising in agrowaste and biobased materials. 
  • Stig Hessellund -- Architect and project manager with Realdania, with a primary focus on sustainable development in the construction industry.
  • Ana Belizario is head of business development at Brazilian mass timber producer Urbem.

The prize's overall winner will receive an award of €250,000 with the criteria focusing on the demonstrated potential for significant carbon emissions reduction and benefits to nature and local communities.

Three runners-up prizes of €50,000 each will also be awarded based on the same criteria, with €100,000 in discretionary funds reserved for promising projects judged to be worthy of support.

To qualify, proposed solutions must be composed primarily of biomaterials with primary use intended for the built environment; indicate that the product can be successfully manufactured and implemented using currently available technology, and the product/service must already be in market, whether through an early-stage pilot project or openly available.

In addition to the prize money, valuable exposure and storytelling opportunities, benefits to award recipients will include introductions across Built by Nature's extensive frontrunner and partner networks for mentoring support, access to potential investors and new markets, and facilitated connections to peers facing similar challenges and opportunities around the world. By promoting public and industry awareness and education around the potential benefits and applications of the materials solutions, the winners will directly contribute to Built by Nature's vision and mission.

CGTN: International officials expect Xi-Biden meeting to find right path for improving China-U.S. ties

BEIJING, Nov. 15, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2023 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting is about to commence in San Francisco. The upcoming meeting between the Chinese and the U.S. heads of state is eagerly anticipated.

Officials from heavyweight international organizations and the United States agree that sound China-U.S. relations are particularly important nowadays and that the bilateral conversation is set to bring optimism and opportunities to the world.

Xi-Biden meeting expected to bring 'a strong dose of optimism'

Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria, executive director of the APEC Secretariat, said, "The fact that the two important biggest economies are here to have the very important conversation, a crucial conversation, at this time really opens the door to other opportunities for the world."

"It brings a strong dose of optimism as the year comes to a close and the start of the next year," she said.

She added that countries should look at more holistic benefits that can spur global growth from a broader perspective.

In an exclusive interview with CGTN, former Director-General of the WTO Roberto Azevedo said he hopes the U.S. and China can find a way to move forward through the meeting, as a more positive environment between the two superpowers is "absolutely fundamental for the world to feel safer, to feel that we are on the right path."

He suggested that both sides be open to talking and listening to something they don't want to hear.

Gita Gopinath, the first deputy managing director of IMF, told CGTN that it's critical for China and the U.S. and for the global economy to have close relations and good working relations. "There has to be a way for both countries to be able to work together," she said.

Meanwhile, former U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu told CGTN in an interview that "decoupling" between the U.S. and China is a "bad idea," adding that if they do so, whatever little trust left will also begin to vanish.

Noting China has emerged as a significant player and the world's second-largest economy, Chu said the U.S., China and Europe need to work closely to achieve zero carbon.

New starting point for people-to-people exchanges

The Philadelphia Orchestra is back in China 50 years after its historic trip in 1973 when it became the first American orchestra to visit the country.

From November 9 to 18, it is performing concerts and organizing residency activities in Beijing, Tianjin, Suzhou and Shanghai.

In an exclusive interview with CGTN, Tristan Rais-Sherman, the assistant conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra, said, "We are really excited to celebrate this historic event and this historic moment."

The assistant conductor said he hoped the visit could become a good starting point and that other American orchestras will continue the comeback to play for the Chinese audience.

After the Philadelphia Orchestra concert in Beijing, U.S. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns told CGTN that music unites the two countries. "In 1973, the orchestra came here and brought the two countries together; now we are in another time, where the two countries are reconnecting, our leaders are, our governments are, and our people are."

China and the U.S. also saw regular direct passenger flights increase again starting November 9, bringing more people-to-people exchanges between both countries. 

San Francisco, the host city of the upcoming APEC meeting, is well-prepared to draw global attention with its deep cultural and economic ties to the Asia-Pacific region, which could be seen from the historic Chinatown and the fact that a third of its residents have Asian or Pacific Islander ancestry.

Describing the city as a gateway to the Asia Pacific, London Breed, the 45th Mayor of San Francisco, said the city looks forward to building bridges and a better relationship. Breed added that she couldn't wait to see Chinese tourists.

With lanterns always hanging in the city's Chinatown throughout the year, Breed said the city is ensuring they "shine brighter in the APEC."

DUBAI, UAE, Nov. 13, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- The next chapter for the skies has arrived as Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia's new world-class airline wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) set to take off in 2025, unveiled the second of its permanent dual-livery designs at the Dubai Airshow 2023.

The latest livery continues Riyadh Air's indigo theme with striking lines inspired by the twisting canopies of traditional Bedouin tents and elegant curves of Arabic calligraphy. The bold new look features a sweeping cockpit window design, with the indigo signature theme contrasted beautifully against a light unique iridescent fuselage that reflects purity and the future-focused vision of Saudi Arabia.

With a vision to shape the future of air travel, Riyadh Air unveiled its first livery at the Paris Airshow in June this year having previously received its IATA Airline Designator Code (RX) as well as signing a major deal for 90 GEnx engines to power its fleet following a significant order of up to 72 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners made in March.

The super-sophisticated second livery will see Riyadh Air aircraft adorned in a lavender and indigo paint featuring a feather-like design near the rear of the fuselage, and 'Riyadh Air' written in English and Arabic and the airline's trademark logo on the tail, engines, and aircraft underbelly. The second livery reflects Saudi Arabia's forward-thinking ambitions using iridescent color to add a modern twist to the innovative design, which along with intricate bold text, makes Riyadh Air instantly recognizable, whether on the ground or in the skies.

Under the evocative theme "Horology Futurology", the event saw the participation of around 200 people. The day echoed the mission of the FHH Forum: to ensure the sustainability and adaptability of the watch industry by fostering dialogue and debate.
