TechGraph: Umiya has positioned itself as both a telecom OEM with DSIR-approved R&D and as a system integrator executing large-scale government projects. In a market where global players are also aggressive, how do you differentiate your value proposition to ensure you remain the preferred partner?

Aniruddha Mehta: Umiya Buildcon Ltd. differentiates itself by combining in-house telecom production with advanced R&D and hands-on project execution. Its DSIR-approved R&D lab and automated manufacturing facility in Electronics City, Bengaluru, have enabled the in-house development of various products like TDMoIP devices and a new generation of 1G switches. As a DSIR-approved telecom OEM and a system integrator for large-scale government projects, we design, manufacture, and deploy solutions that are both technologically robust and tailored to the specific needs of domestic clients.

So essentially, from R&D to rollout — we make next-gen connectivity a reality. Unlike global players who often prioritize scale over adaptability, we focus on agility, customization, and a deep understanding of local regulations and operational realities. This integrated approach, from in-house production to on-ground implementation, enables Umiya to deliver cost-efficient, practical, and reliable solutions, reinforcing our position as a preferred partner in the market.

Aniruddha Mehta: At Umiya Buildcon, managing nearly 1,500 government network links means balancing efficiency, cybersecurity, and compliance at scale. As 5G rollout and multi-cloud adoption accelerate, we are re-architecting our solutions with low-latency, edge-ready designs and cloud security best practices to ensure compliance and performance for our clients’ digital transformation journeys. Our proprietary OMNI-EYE Managed Network Services platform enables SLA-based, real-time monitoring across nationwide deployments, supported by four dedicated NOCs. This capability allows us to proactively resolve network issues, ensuring uptime for mission-critical government, PSU, and defense clients.

In parallel, we are strengthening our indigenous portfolio — from 1G switches developed in our DSIR-approved R&D lab to Falcon-Eye Unified Threat Manager (UTM) devices, already securing state-wide networks like Pondicherry SWAN. These solutions are fully aligned with Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat objectives and reduce dependence on imported networking equipment.

Looking ahead, we are embedding zero-trust security frameworks, AI-driven anomaly detection, and edge-ready designs into our offerings to address challenges posed by IoT proliferation, hybrid networks, and the dissolved network perimeter. Our roadmap also includes scaling our switch platform to 10G and 40G, ensuring India’s critical infrastructure stays secure, resilient, and performance-optimized in the 5G era.

TechGraph: OMNI-EYE is central to your monitoring and SLA management. Beyond operational efficiency, do you see it evolving into a platform that could be productised or licensed as a service to other players in the ecosystem?

Aniruddha Mehta: OMNI-EYE was purpose-built to manage complex, mission-critical deployments for government and defense clients where uptime, resilience, and compliance are non-negotiable. While it currently serves as the backbone of our own Managed Network Services, its modular design makes it scalable beyond our internal use.

In the future, we see potential to productise OMNI-EYE, either as a licensed solution or a managed service for ecosystem partners who face similar challenges in network monitoring and security.

Backed by our DSIR-approved R&D lab and expertise in indigenous hardware development, OMNI-EYE could become part of a broader ‘Made in India’ technology suite, aligning with the country’s push for self-reliant digital infrastructure. The pace of this evolution will be market-driven, but the foundation is already in place.

TechGraph: India’s telecom infrastructure push under Digital India and the growing demand for reliable connectivity from enterprises present massive opportunities. Where is Umiya placing its strategic bets to capture this momentum, and what role does in-house R&D play in staying ahead?

Aniruddha Mehta: Digital India and Make in India Policies of the Government have definitely created huge opportunities. R&D is the bedrock for innovation and development of indigenous products, which is our key focus. Umiya Buildcon, under the brand MRO-TEK, is uniquely positioned as a Trusted Network & Telecom gear OEM with an in-house R&D (DSIR – Department of Scientific & Industrial Research approved), state-of-the-art Factory for electronics Manufacturing & a strong Product Development team.

We have made significant progress in terms of our R&D output and product development. We have developed an indigenous 1G Switch built around our Operating System (called the MRO-OS), which will be our base firmware to develop 10G and 40G switches in the near future. We have also developed a built-to-spec indoor network Unit for Defence Radio Communications.

Our Network Security products have been deployed for prestigious State Wide Area Network Projects. Along with our MRO Cloud and Network Management platforms, we are today providing a wide range of Enterprise Network products for the market while also scaling up our product line for future markets. With capabilities of indigenous Development and System integration, our Make in India Network Products and Managed Platform integrate seamlessly to build scalable solutions for the current and future markets.

TechGraph: On the real estate side, Umiya is operating in Bangalore and Goa, two very distinct markets with different customer expectations. What insights have you drawn from managing both markets, and how are you shaping projects to address the shift in buyer preferences toward sustainability and integrated living?

Aniruddha Mehta: At Umiya Buildcon, we see the future of luxury real estate marketing as being defined not by scale, but by intimacy, exclusivity, and experience. For the discerning ultra-HNI buyer, a home is far more than an address; it is a reflection of their identity, lifestyle, and legacy. With a strong presence in commercial, retail, and premium residential development across Bengaluru and Goa, we have seen firsthand how buyer expectations vary between the two markets.

In Bengaluru, our buyers prioritize connectivity, convenience, and access to modern amenities, so our projects are designed to support efficient urban living with seamless infrastructure, smart layouts, and proximity to commercial hubs. In Goa, lifestyle, wellness, and a closer connection to nature take center stage,  which is why our residential developments emphasize open spaces, leisure zones, and community living.

Across both markets, buyer expectations are clearly shifting toward sustainable and integrated living. Umiya is addressing this by embedding energy-efficient systems, smart infrastructure, and locally sourced sustainable materials into every new project. With a fully in-house execution model, we deliver these features consistently, ensuring that sustainability is not an afterthought but an integral part of the design, construction, and handover process. In doing so, we remain focused on crafting communities, elevating lifestyles.

TechGraph: Both telecom and real estate are capital-intensive sectors where customer trust is hard-won and easily lost. How do you ensure consistency in quality and delivery across such diverse verticals while maintaining financial discipline?

Aniruddha Mehta: In both telecom and real estate, trust is earned through transparency, consistent delivery, and a focus on long-term value. These are capital-intensive sectors, so we follow stringent quality control systems and technology-driven project management to ensure timely execution and reliability.

Financial discipline is maintained by prioritizing sustainable growth, selecting projects aligned with our core strengths, and reinvesting strategically in innovation and talent. This balance allows us to deliver consistently across both verticals, while strengthening customer confidence and building relationships that stand the test of time.

TechGraph: Lastly, as someone leading a company straddling technology and infrastructure, where do you personally see the biggest convergence between digital connectivity and urban real estate development, and how is Umiya preparing to play in that space?

Aniruddha Mehta: The convergence between digital connectivity and urban real estate is most visible in three areas: embedding network readiness into project planning, integrating secure connectivity into building operations, and leveraging IoT and data-driven systems to enhance sustainability and efficiency.

Umiya Buildcon is preparing for this future by designing real estate projects with digital infrastructure as a core component from day one. This includes using our proprietary monitoring platform for reliable uptime and SLA management, while ensuring robust cybersecurity measures are built into smart building systems.

By leveraging our dual expertise in telecom and real estate, we aim to create digitally enabled, secure, and future-ready urban spaces that address the evolving demands of smart and sustainable cities. Through the integration of sustainability, technology, and trust, we are building environments that shape the future of urban living.
