Mastercard to soon allow cardholders to transact in cryptocurrencies

Mastercard on Wednesday said, “It will soon allow cardholders to transact in certain cryptocurrencies on its network.”

Raj Dhamodharan, Executive VP, Digital assets, Blockchain, and partnership for MasterCard in a blog post said, “We are preparing right now for the future of crypto and payments, announcing that this year MasterCard will start supporting currencies directly on our network.”

“We aren’t there to recommend you using cryptocurrencies. But we are here to enable customers, merchants, and businesses to move digital value – traditional or crypto however they want,” it said.

The company cleared that not all of today’s cryptocurrencies will be supported on its network, and will only work with stable coins as they are more reliable and regulated in the recent past.

With this option being open from card companies, it has become a lot easier to spend bitcoin now.
